Questioning Faith

Community Appeal
Is your community challenged by the role of doubt in a life of faith?

Questioning Faith enriches the critical conversation of faith, doubt and suffering through stories across religious traditions. When a close friend dies, a Christian seminary student documents his journey of fighting the questions, receiving the answers from his mentors and the responses of friends in other religious communities. Let these stories help open the door to the stories your community wants to tell.

How Questioning Faith created community change!
Among the films in our Lenten Documentary Film Series last year was Macky Alston’s Questioning Faith. It is a film that brings to language the sometimes inchoate cries of those whose faith has been tested on the crucible of suffering. One by one, strangers and friends from two congregations were prompted to tell of their own struggles as they identified with the honest wrestling of the characters in the film. As one of the ministers in the crowd, I found myself returned by the film to life before my own theological education and reminded of the raw questions that haunt the people who wander through the doors of a church on any given week.
Because of that discussion, I preached this Easter on doubt and have no doubt that the “Alleluias” at the door were from those who knew their questions had been heard.
