Peace is for the politicians. I don’t like the word peace, and I stopped looking for it. I’m looking for… justice and understanding. Something that is more realistic for me.

There might be a reality which is cruel, which is occupation. But there is another reality of people hoping for something better. I want to put the thought out there that a woman can lead. All she needs is the right tools and the chance. And sometimes we make our own chances.  Rawan/Palestinian 

Some have lost friends and family members. All bear the psychological and emotional scars of living in a war zone. In July 2002, 22 Palestinian, Israeli and Palestinian Israeli teenage girls traveled to the United States to participate in a women's leadership program called Building Bridges for Peace. My So-Called Enemy is the story of 6 of the girls and how the transformative experience of knowing their "enemies" as human beings meets with the realities of their lives at home in the Middle East over the next 7 years.

Through the stories of Adi, Gal, Hanin, Inas, Rawan and Rezan, we see how creating relationships across emotional, ideological and physical borders is a first step towards resolving conflict. Because My So-Called Enemy is an emotional journey, it opens hearts and minds and creates the space for dialogue about not only the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, but issues that divide us in our families, schools and communities. By watching My So-Called Enemy viewers will see the complexities of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict through a human lens and the possibility and hope that comes from listening to each other's stories. The girls are the experts in My So-Called Enemy and their voices need to be heard, especially because they are young women.
