Theological Schools
This study focuses on institutions that train religious leaders. In a multifaith context, no single word or phrase captures all such institutions, which are variously referred to as seminaries, theological schools, divinity schools, and rabbinical schools. The phrase 'theological school' and the word 'seminary' will be used interchangeably in this report and are intended to refer to institutions that train religious leaders.

Multifaith Education
For the purposes of this study, multifaith education refers to the phenomenon of learning about faith traditions other than the faith tradition of the learner, e.g. a Catholic learning about Islam, or a Jew learning about Buddhism. The motivation, subtext or theological underpinning for the learning is not a factor. A course that teaches Christian seminarians about Islam in order to be more effective at proselytizing to Muslims, and a course that teaches Christian seminarians about Islam in order to be more competent at forming faith-based partnerships for social action, are both considered multifaith education for the purposes of this study.
