Also, resources for the 10th anniversary of September 11th and resources for the upcoming September Jewish High Holy Days. All this and more on the Auburn Web site.

Groundswell
Join the Groundswell and be our guest on September 6th for Out of the Shadows of 9/11: Millennials, Moral Vision, and the Global Groundswell

Groundswell, a new multifaith voice for justice and social action, will launch on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at 7:00 p.m., with the panel, “Out of the Shadows of 9/11: Millennials, Moral Vision, and the Global Groundswell,” at The Jerome L. Greene Performance Space at WNYC, 44 Charlton Street, New York, NY. Click here to join us for this Rudin Lecture.

Panelists will reflect on the last decade and explore the possibilities for a multifaith movement for justice this fall, in the 2012 election cycle, and through the coming decade. Four visionary thought leaders will explore this topic: Valarie Kaur, Director of Groundswell and award-winning filmmaker (Divided We Fall, 2008); Ari Wallach, Co-founder, The Great Schlep, and social innovation expert; Beth Zemsky, organizational consultant and social change strategy expert; and Hussein Rashid, Professor of Religion at Hofstra University and Associate Editor at Religion Dispatches. The panel is hosted by The Rev. Dr. Katharine Rhodes Henderson, President of Auburn Seminary.

Groundswell Call to Action
Click here to send a free 9/11 "Ribbon of Hope" to Ground Zero to mark the tenth anniversary of 9-11. Please write a personal thought, prayer, or hope for healing the city and the world.

We'll hang thousands of ribbons of all colors, shapes, and sizes in a diverse mosaic of color near Ground Zero -- in memory of those killed and in hope for a better world that recommits itself to the celebration of religious diversity, community, and compassion. After the anniversary, the tapestry will hang in prominent public places around the city and we'll be sure to send you photos of it via email.

LOOKING AHEAD IN THE RELIGIOUS CALENDAR...

September High Holidays
September are the High Holidays in the Jewish tradition.  For Sukkot click here to learn how one religious leader uses Sukkot as a moment to bring healing and reconciliation between religious tradition and nature.

And start your planning now for Shemini Atzeret, which Rabbinic Literature shares is a an extra day of observance beyond Sukkot with a more limited time in the sukkah (September 30th )and Simhat Torah, which celebrates the rejoicing of the Torah, on October 1st. For both of these Jewish holidays Auburn invites you to turn to the power of Jewish documentary film as a resource to bring compelling stories to your community. Click here for the best in Jewish documentary film.

The conclusion of Sukkot brings Simchat Torah, the celebration of the Torah. It’s a moment to look to God’s law and rejoice and challenge us to go further in our work in healing the world. Click here to listen to Rabbi Sharon Brous.

October World Communion Sunday
On October 2nd, Christians worldwide come together for World Communion Sunday and experience how this sacrament brings unity and reconciliation. Consider planning for a Bible Study that celebrates the church’s role in ending South African apartheid.
