Statement from The Rev. Dr. Katharine Henderson on Queens Firebomb Attacks
January 4, 2012
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
"We at Auburn Seminary are deeply troubled by the firebombing attacks that occurred last Sunday, January 1, 2012 in Queens, New York. These hate crimes targeted a mosque, a Hindu temple, and a convenience store run by Muslims. These attacks go against everything that we believe this city and this nation stand for. As a country, we are at our best when we celebrate our diversity, and affirm the principles of religious freedom on which our country was founded.
As a member of the Prepare New York coalition, Auburn Seminary has been part of a citywide interfaith effort to foster dialogue and bridge religious divides. Auburn reiterates its commitment to stand in solidarity with people of all faiths, knowing that together, we are part of a groundswell of people across the U.S. working to overcome fear and division."
