Statement from The Rev. Dr. Katharine Henderson on Queens Firebomb Attacks
By Claudia Gunter
January 4, 2012 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE "We at Auburn Seminary are deeply troubled by the firebombing attacks that occurred last Sunday, January 1, 2012 in Queens, New York. These hate crimes targeted a mosque, a Hindu temple, and a convenience store run by Muslims. These attacks go against everything that we believe this city and this nation stand for. As a country, we are at our best when we celebrate our diversity, and affirm the principles of religious freedom on which our country was founded. As a member of the Prepare New York coalition, Auburn Seminary has been part of a citywide interfaith effort to foster dialogue and bridge religious divides. Auburn reiterates its commitment to stand in solidarity with people of all faiths, knowing that together, we are part of a groundswell of people across the U.S. working to overcome fear and division." I grew up in a small town in South Carolina. My favorite mrmoey of the Good Olde Days was sitting on the front porch on Sunday afternoons in the summer time, just rockin' and talkin'. Momma would mix up just the right ingredients for some good olde homemade ice cream , Daddy would turn the crank to the old wooden churn and I would sit on a towel on the top of the churn to hold it steady. There was nothing like dipping that delicious treat into my Grandmother's special little dessert dishes. Naturally, the neighbors were always invited. We would sit back and enjoy every bite (and usually another bowl). How sweet those times were.Momma and Daddy are gone now, but they left me with memories that I think about so often. Those were the Good Olde Days . If we could only slow down to that lifestyle again. kLYXwzuKFafOWBRDXiy April 20, 2012
Buying local is important to me & my failmy for MANY reasons: yes, it supports our local economy/markets, farmers, businesses, etc. The taste & flavors from our local products are incredible-it's just hard to beat. I love to cook and fitness & nutrition are important to me. But nothing is more pleasing to me than to know I made something delicious and healthy using what was grown or produced from my surrounding area.I want to show my support & I love that you want to support me and my community. It's a win-win all the way around. Thank you EF for your concern & support! QlEcjooqhyJpYBi April 19, 2012

Local is more than just keeping money in our cmmounity, and it is about more than just freshness. Every time we buy local, as a consumer, we are voting to help small farms, and organic farms. Ultimately consumers have the right and the power to choose what kind of food they will eat. The more we buy local, the better local farms will do, and the cheaper and the more abundant healthy local food will be. Local farms are up against huge conglomerate farms, and it is up to us to give them the tools and money they need to continue to offer us the food we want. With more education from large stores like Earthfare, consumers will be able to make good choices. nAphkHpLEsVyYMr April 19, 2012
Buying local to me is important abuecse it helps to boost the economy. The economy is in dire straits right now and any small business owner needs all the help that they can recieve right now. It is much more important, and fresh, to purchase from locally owned and operated locations to help to boost the ecomony and to give back to the community that we live in. There are too many large competitors out there right now who don't actually care about you as the consumer, only their bottom line counts and their profit margins. Buying local benefits the consumer and the producer and also stimilates the economy so there many advantages. I enjoy shopping at EarthFare becuase it is a local supermarket that has fresh foods available as well as healthy options. EarthFare has become a local favorite of mine and my family, and I hope to continue to shop there to help do my part to stimulate the economy locally. Thanks so much EarthFare!
