Auburn Study helps Association of Theological Schools step toward multifaith education
By Justus Baird September 15, 2011 The Association of Theological Schools accredits the majority of seminaries in North America. Recently the Association began considering the addition of multifaith education requirements to its rigorous accreditation standards. Auburn's 2009 study, Beyond World Religions: The State of Multifaith Education in American Theological Schools, authored by Rabbi Justus Baird and Lucinda Mosher, ThD, features prominently in the lead article for ATS's 2011 Fall Colloquy magazine. Additional articles by Jennifer Peace and Gregory Mobley at Andover Newton Theological School add to the volume's focus on multifaith education in seminaries. ATS represents a theologically diverse group of schools. The standards they articulate for multifaith education will have a huge impact on the training that a whole generation of future religious leaders in America will receive. Auburn celebrates ATS's careful look at the need for multifaith education in the formation process of American clergy, and gratefully acknowledges the generous commitment of the Henry Luce Foundation in supporting this work in recent years.
